workcamper site #2
50 acres of forest at your back door
workamper site # 1
Our most popular site with dog owners,
it has a huge fenced-in yard and covered dog kennel. It also faces one of our ponds.
Safe Harbor Farm is a quiet, animal-friendly place where the talents of visiting workampers complement the year-round efforts of our core volunteers, and where a wide variety of birds and wildlife complements our resident dogs, cats, goats and guinea fowl. The happiest Workampers are those who like to work with their hands outdoors in a pretty location.
Workampers at SHF help primarily with landscaping (especially along our trails),
handiman tasks like painting, power-washing & fence-repair, occasional
cleaning and hive construction in our wood shop.

You are welcome to help in our apiary and learn a lot about the bees, but
these hours are not counted toward workamping hours.

Most outdoor work is done in 3, 4 or 6-hour shifts between sun-up and 12 in the summer and between 11 and 4 during the cooler months.

Maysville is a quiet one-light southern town with a nice library and a friendly post-office. Honestly, there isn't much here. That said, we're a pleasant 25-minute drive from the ocean, and we're between two much busier towns, Jacksonville and New Bern. Jacksonville is home to Camp Lejeune, and New Bern has a wonderful, dog-friendly downtown to
explore on foot. We're also conveniently located for overnight trips to Williamsburg, VA and the Outer Banks of NC.
Workampers are asked to commit to at least one month, and several months is much appreciated. That said, many have stayed five or more months at a time. Well-matched workampers who love being here are always welcome to extend their stay and many
have, becoming lifelong friends!
